Tishrei 5787 Hours and Last-Chance Dates
Tishrei 5787 is a hard month to shop. Three separate times, a Yom Tov lands right next to Shabbos and the store is shut for three days straight. Below is every closure, the last hour you can walk in or order before each one, and the morning we open again. Times are for Crown Heights, Brooklyn 11225.
Our regular hours: Sunday to Thursday 10am to 10pm, Friday 8am until thirty minutes before candle lighting, closed Shabbos.
The four deadlines, short version
- Rosh Hashanah: last chance Friday 11 September, until about 6:20pm. Closed until Monday 14 September, 10am.
- Yom Kippur: last chance Sunday 20 September, until about 6:05pm. Closed until Tuesday 22 September, 10am.
- Sukkos: last chance Friday 25 September, until about 5:55pm. Closed until Monday 28 September, 10am.
- Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah: last chance Friday 2 October, until about 5:45pm. Closed until Monday 5 October, 10am.
Rosh Hashanah, 11 to 13 September
Erev Rosh Hashanah is Friday 11 September. Candle lighting in Crown Heights is 6:53pm, so we close at about 6:20pm. Day one is Shabbos 12 September, day two is Sunday 13 September, and the chag ends Sunday night at 7:49pm.
That is three days and five festive meals with no shop open in between. It is the longest stretch of the month. If you are hosting, the real deadline is Thursday 10 September, when we are open until 10pm and there is no queue at the register.
We reopen Monday 14 September at 10am.
Yom Kippur, 20 to 21 September
Erev Yom Kippur is Sunday 20 September, candle lighting 6:38pm, so we close at about 6:05pm. Yom Kippur ends Monday 21 September at 7:35pm and we stay closed that day.
We reopen Tuesday 22 September at 10am. If you need something for the seudah hamafsekes or for the break fast, buy it Sunday afternoon or earlier.
Sukkos, 25 to 27 September
Erev Sukkos is Friday 25 September, candle lighting 6:29pm, so we close at about 5:55pm. Sukkos day one is Shabbos 26 September, day two is Sunday 27 September, ending 7:25pm. Another three-day stretch.
We reopen Monday 28 September at 10am. Chol Hamoed runs Monday 28 September through Thursday 1 October and we keep regular hours the whole way, including Thursday until 10pm.
Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah, 2 to 4 October
Erev Shemini Atzeres is Friday 2 October, candle lighting 6:18pm, so we close at about 5:45pm. Shemini Atzeres is Shabbos 3 October, Simchas Torah is Sunday 4 October, ending 7:13pm. The third three-day stretch, and the one people forget, because by then everyone assumes the holidays are over.
We reopen Monday 5 October at 10am.
Two things worth knowing before you plan
Buy for the whole stretch, not for one meal. Each of the three closures covers five festive meals. The bottle count people get wrong is almost always the second day, not the first.
Thursday night is the quiet time to shop. We are open until 10pm every Thursday, including 10 September, 24 September and 1 October. Friday morning before a three-day Yom Tov is the busiest few hours we have all year.
Delivery and pickup
Delivery is five dollars flat anywhere in Crown Heights with no minimum, ten dollars anywhere else in Brooklyn, and twenty dollars to Manhattan or Queens. Pickup at 511 Empire Blvd is free and usually ready within the hour. On Erev Yom Tov, order in the morning rather than the afternoon so the driver has room to move.
