Don Julio 1942 is the tequila Don Julio González released to mark 60 years since he began distilling in 1942 — a Highland-Jalisco añejo aged at least 2.5 years in ex-bourbon American oak, made from mature Blue Weber agave. The tall, hand-blown bottle is its own signature.

Mood: Ceremonial, deep, warm.

Sommelier

"The bottle that turned a Highlands añejo into a marquee pour — layered, silky, cooked-agave forward. Serve at room temperature in a snifter or a Riedel tequila glass, not a shot glass."

Tasting notes

Nose of caramel, cooked agave, vanilla and toasted oak. The palate is lush and layered — cooked agave leads, with toasty oak, silky vanilla and a lift of dark chocolate. A long, warm, elegant finish.

Food pairing

Neat, room temperature — this is a sipping pour. Also pairs with dark chocolate, an aged sharp cheese, or a good cigar. For cocktails, the price argues for something younger.
