The kosher magnum from Pierre Chavin's Villa Chavin label - a French country red sized for a full Shabbos table at an everyday price.
Mood: The Friday-night table of ten. The Yom Tov lunch that needs one bottle to cover the whole pour. The host who wants French on the label without French pricing.
Our sommelier says
Medium ruby. The nose is open and fruit-led - red and dark berry, a wisp of pepper, a soft floral note. The palate is medium-bodied and easy, with light-to-medium tannin and a clean fruit core that doesn't ask anything difficult of the drinker. This is honest everyday French wine in the format that matters when you're feeding twelve people. Pour it cold-cellar temperature, drink it with food, don't overthink it. Confirmed alcoholic (not from Pierre Chavin's separate dealcoholized line).
Tasting notes
Red berry, dark berry, soft pepper, light floral lift. Medium body, light-to-medium tannin, clean fruit core, easy texture. Clean, fruit-driven, simple.
Food pairing
Roast chicken, Friday-night brisket, grilled vegetables, pasta with meat sauce, the everyday Shabbos seudah.
