Sant'Eusanio is Valle Reale's estate expression of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, from high-altitude vineyards on the eastern slope of the Apennines outside Popoli. Bright, mineral, and food-friendly, this is Abruzzo at its most terroir-clear.
Mood: mountain-fresh, mineral, savory.
Most Montepulciano is heavy and jammy. Valle Reale climbs the mountain and finds acidity, minerality, and crunch. Kosher Abruzzo done right.
Tasting Notes
Seductive nose of wild strawberry, dark cherry, crushed alpine herbs, and green tobacco. The palate is smooth and seamless, lifted by bright acidity and a clean line of crushed-stone minerality. Crunchy red fruit at the core, with a savory mineral vein carrying from start to finish.
Food Pairing
A textbook Shabbos Italian red for pizza and pasta al pomodoro, brisket with tomato-forward glaze, roast lamb, or eggplant parmesan (kosher-appropriate). Also pairs beautifully with hard aged Italian cheeses.
