- Kosher for Passover
J. de Villebois Sancerre Rose is a kosher take on the benchmark AOP of the Loire Valley. It is 100% Pinot Noir, grown in vineyards on Caillottes limestone and Terres Blanches (Kimmeridgian marls). The Dutch businessman Joost de Villebois built the operation together with winemaker Thierry Merlet, and when they acquired Fournier in 2015 they became one of Sancerre's premier producers.
Mood: Fresh, mineral, elegant.
Tasting Notes
It pours a fresh salmon-pink, and a lifted cherry aroma rises from the glass. Red-berry fruits and citrus come through on the nose, with a tangy note. On the palate it is tense, ample, and aromatic, with cherry, raspberry, and strawberry flavors, a touch of herbs, and real minerality. The finish is balanced, gently spicy, and delightful.
Food Pairing
It is a beautiful match for grilled vegetables, salads with goat cheese, seafood, sushi, or a mezze spread. This is a serious rose for Shabbos or yom tov.
