Murciano's reserve Cabernet-Merlot comes from the high Judean mountains and spends twenty-four months in French oak. It is named for the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hevron.
Mood: The cellar bottle. The Yom Tov first night where the host puts out the wine that's been waiting for the occasion.
Our sommelier says
The color is deep garnet. Spicy aromatics open the nose, with a soft vanilla signature from two years in French oak, layered with dark cherry and plum. Cabernet leads on structure, and Merlot rounds the mid-palate into something rich and soft. It is full-bodied, and the long oak time has done its work, leaving fine, well-integrated tannin. Thanks to the Hebron mountain elevation, the fruit stays lifted and the alcohol stays in check. The finish is long and layered. Decant thirty minutes. It is built to hold in the cellar.
Tasting notes
Dark cherry and plum, soft vanilla, spicy oak. Full in body and oak-layered, with fine, well-integrated tannin and a soft, rich mid-palate. A long, composed, spice-driven close.
Food pairing
Pour with standing rib roast, lamb shoulder, beef brisket, or aged hard cheese (after the wait). Fits a Yom Tov seudah.
