Galil Mountain Winery was founded in 2000 as a joint venture between Golan Heights Winery and Kibbutz Yiron, with vineyards perched along the Lebanese border in the Upper Galilee. Alon — Hebrew for oak — is the winery's flagship red blend, drawing Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc from those high-altitude vineyards and aging the result for 12 months in French oak.

Mood: Serious, Mediterranean, ageable.

SOMMELIER NOTE
"A serious Upper Galilee red blend at a price that lets you actually serve it on a Tuesday. This is the bottle that punches well above its price — most guests will assume you paid double."

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby-purple in the glass. The nose opens with raspberry, ripe cherry, and a savory herbal lift — Mediterranean garrigue, a touch of black pepper from the Syrah. The palate is medium-to-full bodied with red and black fruit, soft tannins, and a finish carrying oak spice and well-judged freshness.

Food Pairing

Built for grilled lamb chops, ribeye, slow-roasted shoulder, and any hard cheese. Holds up to cholent on Shabbos morning and stands its ground next to smoked duck.
