From Irpinia in Campania, Rubrato is the everyday Aglianico of Feudi di San Gregorio, made from the same regal red grape that powers Taurasi. It is younger and friendlier, and good enough value to open on a random Tuesday.

Tasting notes

Ripe black cherry, plum, and a soft note of dried herbs de Provence rise on the nose over a light edge of spice. The palate is structured and medium-to-full bodied, with a Mediterranean warmth that carries dark-fruit weight, a whisper of leather, and the classic firm tannin of Aglianico. It finishes long and clean, with a dark-fruit note that lingers and a subtle earth grip.

Food pairing

It is a natural with slow-braised lamb, brisket, roast duck, and Sicilian-style meats. Hard aged cheeses and mushroom-heavy dishes suit it too.
