Feudi del Pisciotto's Nero d'Avola Versace is the fashion-label Sicilian that put kosher Sicily on the runway — Donatella Versace designed the label, the Val di Noto vineyards supplied the fruit, and the 2015 vintage cracked Wine Spectator's Top 100. This is Sicilian Nero d'Avola at full volume.
Mood: Bold, Sicilian, showstopper.
"Nero d'Avola built for the head of the table — plum, spice, sunshine, and enough structure to stand next to a serious cut of meat. And the Versace bottle earns its keep as centerpiece."
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-purple in the glass. Nose of ripe black plum, morello cherry, sweet tobacco and Mediterranean garrigue. The palate is full-bodied and generous with soft tannins, dark berry compote, licorice and a warm spice thread from barrique aging. The finish is long, mineral-touched and savory.
Food Pairing
Pull the cork for Shabbos brisket, grilled lamb chops, or an aged ribeye. Also excellent with pasta alla Norma, eggplant caponata and hard Italian cheeses on the seudah shlishit board.
