Shirah Coalition Red Blend Non-Mevushal (750ml)
- In stock
- Not Mevushal
- Kosher for Passover
The Coalition is the signature Italian-varietal blend from Shirah, an ode by Gabriel and Shimon Weiss to old-world grapes reborn on the California coast. It brings together Sagrantino, Aglianico, Freisa, and a touch of Mourvèdre from Monterey County, blended and aged as if the Weiss brothers were still working in Piedmont.
Mood: Bold, aromatic, cult.
Sommelier’s note
“Most kosher drinkers have never had the grapes in this Coalition. Once they do, the bottle doesn't sit for a second Shabbos.”
Tasting notes
Wild cherry, dried herbs, and tobacco leaf rise out of the glass with a black-pepper lift. It is full-bodied and structured, with red-fruit intensity carrying the middle, chewy tannin, and a smoky-spicy thread running through. The finish is long, dark and savoury, the Italian side of California in the glass.
Pairing
Serve it with roast lamb, mushroom risotto, aged hard cheese, or a Wednesday-night steak. It is also stunning with a Rosh Hashanah brisket.
