Sangue Morlacco is Luxardo's classic Italian cherry liqueur, made from Luxardo cherry juice rested in oak nine months for a natural cherry-wine fermentation, then fortified and sweetened. Renamed by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio in 1919, in continuous production at the Luxardo distillery since 1821.
Mood: dark cherry, oak, old-world.
The cherry liqueur bartenders reach for when Kirsch is too dry and Cherry Heering is too sweet. Neat over ice, or the secret weapon in a Manhattan Perfect.
Tasting Notes
Deep dark cherry and dried plum on the nose with a whisper of almond and vanilla oak. The palate is rich and softly sweet, sour-cherry compote meeting a warm spirit backbone. The finish is long and warming, chocolate cherry and light bitter-almond lingering.
Food Pairing
A dessert liqueur or cocktail base. Over vanilla ice cream, splashed into hot black coffee, or as a l'chaim shot after a heavy meal. Also the classic float on a Manhattan or Aviation cocktail. Wonderful with dark chocolate.
