Leroux Dark Crème de Cacao (750ml)
- In stock
Among the classic American cordials, Leroux Dark Crème de Cacao is a chocolate-flavored liqueur, dark brown in colour, that has sat on back-bars since the mid-century. It is part of the Leroux line, distilled in Philadelphia by Jacquin. It is kosher and reliably on-shelf.
Mood: Rich, sweet, dessert-hour.
Bartender's note
"This is the dark-chocolate cordial the Brandy Alexander and the Grasshopper were built on. Brown sugar, warm cocoa, and a whiff of vanilla. Inexpensive enough that it actually gets used behind the bar."
Tasting notes
It smells of toasted vanilla bean, brown sugar, and dark cocoa. On the palate it is medium-sweet and syrupy but not cloying, showing coffee, milk chocolate, and a light warmth from the spirit. The finish is warm, with cocoa that lingers.
Best served
It is a staple of classic cocktails such as the Grasshopper, Brandy Alexander, mudslide, and chocolate martini. It can be drizzled over vanilla ice cream or into hot coffee too, or poured straight into a cordial glass after dessert.
