With Nes Harim, Katlav pays tribute to the village where the winery made its home. The blend is 50/50 Merlot and Petit Verdot, from the Judean Hills vineyards that surround it. The Merlot makes it plush, the Petit Verdot adds spice and structure, and the result is a balanced boutique red.
Mood: plush, spiced, village.
An unusual pairing on paper, half Merlot and half Petit Verdot. On the palate it's a rich, generous Shabbos red with more spine than a straight Merlot would ever give you.
Tasting Notes
The nose brings ripe plum, black cherry, and dried blueberry, plus a whisper of violet and wild herbs. It is round and layered on the palate, where the soft plum fruit of the Merlot is married to the firmer tannins of the Petit Verdot and a graphite lift. It finishes warm and savory, with dark spice, cocoa nib, and Judean pine.
Food Pairing
It crosses over from weeknight to Shabbos with roast chicken with rosemary, veal osso buco, stuffed cabbage, lamb tagine, or a rich main built around mushrooms. Hard cheeses and grilled portobello are good matches too.
