This Judean Hills Merlot is made in small quantities by a winery that shares a hilltop in Ofra with Tanya. The scale is boutique and the intent is serious.
Mood: The bottle for the guest who knows Israeli wine and wants to see what the small houses are doing.
Our sommelier says
The color is deep ruby. Plum, black cherry, and a wisp of cocoa make a classic Merlot nose, joined by the dried-herb signature that the Judean Hills gives everything grown there. It is medium-to-full on the palate. Time in French oak has rounded the tannin, and the fruit core hasn't been pushed past balance. This is the quiet boutique style, with everything in proportion and nothing oversized. It drinks well now and will hold a few years.
Tasting notes
Plum, black cherry, cocoa, and dried herb. The body is medium-to-full with rounded tannin, a plum and cherry core, and an oak frame. It is persistent and gently savory.
Food pairing
Serve with roast lamb, beef brisket, mushroom dishes, or aged hard cheese (after the wait).
