Chateau Valandraud 2005 is a library-release kosher cuvee from Jean-Luc Thunevin's iconic Saint-Emilion garagiste estate, a 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc blend from a benchmark Bordeaux vintage aged 22 months in new French oak. Twenty-plus years of cellar patience in every bottle.
Mood: cellared Bordeaux, refined age.
A library-release kosher Valandraud. Almost never seen. This is the bottle you open once, and everyone at the table remembers where they were sitting.
Tasting Notes
A precise, fine-grained bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, and crisp strawberry with subtle marine minerality. The palate is composed and refined, with an almost Burgundian silkiness carrying decades of tertiary aromatic evolution, cedar, truffle, and dried tobacco. The finish is powerful and intense, cohesive, and still evolving.
Food Pairing
A head-of-table wine for a milestone seudah. Ideal with dry-aged ribeye, slow-braised short rib, roast lamb, or seared duck confit. Also lovely with aged hard cheeses and a fine cigar.
